Medical students and post-grads

About student and resident positions in the Yukon

The Yukon Medical Association is responsible for most student and resident positions in the Yukon. Medical students and residents should contact the Yukon Medical Association to secure an elective position before applying for a Yukon medical licence.

Medical students

Any elective needs to be pre-approved by your university. You must have a Yukon Medical Council licence prior to your start date in the Yukon. Please allow 2 weeks for the application process.

  • Complete a medical student registration application form.
  • Submit the following documents:
    • Proof that you’re eligible to work in Canada (e.g., birth certificate, Canadian passport, student visa).
    • A letter from your university Dean stating authorization to proceed with the elective and confirming that university insurance is in place during the elective.
  • You must apply for hospital privileges after getting your Yukon licence and before providing patient care in Yukon hospitals. You must initiate this process with the Yukon Hospital Corporation directly. With your permission, we can share your university letter with the Yukon Hospital Corporation to streamline the process.
